This is my most favorite part. The process of preparing the surface. Carefully painted white layers dry and are sanded with four grades of sand paper which get consecutively more fine. The process is very meditative. Each layer of paint gets the same sanding process. Usually I paint four or five layers of gesso to prep the surface. This is the best part because it is laying the groundwork for an infinite number of possibilities. Anything could happen on the surface of these panels. They are clean and smooth and finished, even though nothing has begun yet.
