Blind Color Adventure

Back to paint layers. Too much thinking has left me abandoning my paintbrush for weeks. Today I was inspired by a color, and that is how I began. I just wanted to look at a color, and then I painted. As usual I have no idea where these paintings are going, but it will be an adventure that I have to keep forcing myself to take.

To New Beginnings...and more beginnings

It's the beginning of the new year, my favorite part. I have taken another picture of all of my little wood panels that I am priming....which I know look exactly like all the other pictures of wood panels I have primed in the past. But I can't get enough of new beginnings. I don't know why it is so difficult to start the process of new paintings, or drawings, or any creative endeavor. Especially since I know how great the feeling is of starting the process again. I have no idea what these paintings will turn into. I continue to work with the idea that it is an experiment, and to see what will happen. It's just like my life, really. And, nothing happens until I do something. You would think inspiration would come first, then the painting. But actually, it has proven to be the other way around. In painting and in life.
I have been stuck on one painting for a while, trying to bring it to life by painting and repainting it. I haven't succeeded yet in making the Supes painting the vision that I have in mind yet, but I am not ready to give up. I  am however taking a break from looking at it by starting these new wood panels. My hope is when I go back to it I will see it with new eyes. The painting at the top is how the painting was. Below that is an image of the layer of paint that is on the canvas now. My wish and desire is that the layer I paint next will be the one that breathes life into it.

Tiny Art

These are some artist trading cards I recently painted for a group called Enchanted Orlando. They are all in India ink, on paper, the size of baseball cards. It's funny how the tiny size of these works of art make them seem fun, like somehow you are creating toys or some secret message.

I Choose Hope

This painting is 16x20" done in water soluble oils. It's called "I Choose Hope" and it has those words scribbled in paint over and over again on the lower half of the painting. I was really interested in conveying light...choosing to look at light, at hope instead of the opposite. The image was originally taken from a reference photo of a sunset that I abstracted into an emotional landscape.

Art House Co-op sketches continued

The 'largest sweater ever' page...and the moving page..."I have moved about 26 times or more. A few times across the ocean, a few across the United States and a few around Nairobi." Two more pages done in my Art House Co-op sketchbook. I need to speed up my sketching and get focused...I have 22 pages left to fill!

We Wear Armor

One of my paintings at Dandelion Communitea Cafe was adopted (sold) and it won't be hanging much longer. I  didn't include it in my last post of the paintings from the show, so here it is now. It's 9.5x27.5", India ink and gloss gel medium varnish on paper on recycled wood panel. It's called "We Wear Armor" and the story is: "Sometimes armor is needed in the wilderness of life." Thank you to everyone who came by to see the art, there are two other great artists showing as well...Maisy May Mars and Brendan O'Connor.

If you get a chance, also stop by one of my favorite artist's show at Stardust. Jessica Early has an amazing art show up there. Extremely beautiful and inspiring. I am adopting one of her paintings that I adore. It's called "Something New Is Being Born Into Me, And I Yield To It".
